Strongholds – Jessica Hurtado

Strongholds

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10: 3-5 NKJV).

Paul highlights that our fight is against knowledge [things that exalt itself against the knowledge of God]. Although we are here on the Earth (walking in the flesh) and things come against us that we would be inclined to resolve in the natural, we’d be fighting the “wrong” way. If the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (traditional, earthly), how then do we fight? First, lets outline the battlefield, then we can look to our resources to fight what we are facing.

A stronghold is described as a fortified place, a place of security or survival, or a place dominated/marked by a particular characteristic. If we are in a knowledge war striving to destroy strongholds, which are described as fortified places marked by particular characteristics, then we need to pull these (fortified characteristics, places of security) down by bringing every thought captive to the obedience of the Word of God.

Do you find yourself in a fortified place were your mind constantly or easily drifts into negative thinking? I’m not good enough. I feel anxious. I feel depressed. Nobody likes me. I can never accomplish my dreams. Nobody could ever really love me. I’ll never get out of debt, and on and on. All these can be classified as fortified characteristics that have found a secure place in your mind striving to survive – a stronghold.

Our focus scripture tells us we have mighty weapons found in God that were created to destroy these strongholds that have entrenched themselves in our mind. These weapons are found in the Word of God. They are the Word of God. “For as a man thinketh, so does he become” (Prov. 23:7). Our thoughts shape who we become. If we are in a knowledge war and the weapons of our warfare are found in the Word of God, think about what you are thinking about. Take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.

Don’t go another day believing the lies the enemy continuously whispers, allowing him to stay entrenched in the strongholds he’s fortified in your mind. Receive God’s truth today. Take every thought captive that exalts itself against the knowledge found in the Word of God and be set free.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me all the weapons I need to destroy everything that exalts itself against your truth. Holy Spirit remind me to think about what I’m thinking about and take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ. If it doesn’t align with His truth, it’s not from him. In Jesus’s name. Amen!
